Global Social Impact House 2014

What is The Global Social Impact House? 

The Global Social Impact House (GSIH) is an intensive 7-day residential fellowship in Vieques, Puerto Rico exclusively for early stage social entrepreneurs who are poised to advance their social ventures and in need of advanced training and expert support.

Sponsored by the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania, this exciting opportunity is open exclusively to students who successfully complete the University of Pennsylvania's Coursera Course on Social Entrepreneurship and are working on innovative social enterprises. Those selected receive a full scholarship to participate in this  program.

What the Program Offers:

At the Global Social Impact House, fellows will advance their ventures and prepare for implementation by developing strategic skills in leadership, business development and design thinking. Fellows, staff, and mentors will create and collaborate in a constructivist environment that provides each learner with the opportunity to address the critical needs and explore the vast opportunities of each venture.The fellows selected for GSIH will represent top emerging leaders throughout the world, all united by a common vision and commitment to bettering the world through social innovation. Fellows will build meaningful relationships with a global network of social entrepreneurs while living and working together in a beautiful island villa in Vieques, Puerto Rico.

GSIH is an accelerated training program modeled after the Penn Social Impact House and the Dell Summer Social Innovation Lab where we have supported emerging social innovators from the University of Pennsylvania to grow their ventures and potential. We draw on a network of experienced social impact experts and mentors who lead workshops, provide one-on-one coaching, and work alongside you on-site throughout the experience.

The Center for Social Impact Strategy will provide full scholarships to cover program related expenses including food, room and board and tuition. Students will be responsible for travel costs and visa-related expenses.

Student enrolled in the Social Entrepreneurship Course on Coursera can apply by completing this form by October 24, 2014.  Finalists will be notified on October 28, 2014. Selection priority will be given to the students enrolled in the Signature Track.

Finalists are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Clarity of their social impact idea;

  • Proven entrepreneurial experience and ability to implement ideas;  

  • A clear sense of what skills and resources they currently need to advance their social ventures;

  • A strong Interest in collaborating with other global social entrepreneurs;

  • Passion for making a social impact.

The full scholarship includes lodging, food and program expenses related expenses. Fellows are responsible for covering the cost of international travel, and any other travel /visa related expenses.
